Privacy Policy

Verbose Resume helps you keep one detailed career record, tailor resumes for specific roles, and track applications. This policy explains what we collect, how we store it, and how we use it.

What we collect

• Account identity — when you sign in, we receive an account identifier, name, avatar, and email address from your sign-in provider.
• Career content you save — your verbose resume (Markdown), tailored resume JSON, application records, interview notes, contacts you add, uploaded files, and related notes.
• Optional public profile — display name, summary, links, and other fields you choose to publish on a public profile page.
• Share links — if you create a share link, the content you choose to share is available to anyone with that link (subject to any password you set).
• API keys & usage — keys you create, and requests made with them or with your session (including MCP / HTTP API calls).
• Session data — a session cookie (vr_session) so you stay signed in.
• Operational logs & analytics — basic request and product-event data used to run, secure, and understand the service (for example, sign-ins and feature usage counts).

You can use the resume generator without an account. Content you only paste or upload for a one-off preview that is not saved to your account is not retained as a permanent career record beyond what is needed to render that response.

How we store data

• Account and saved career data live in our application database (PostgreSQL) on infrastructure we operate or contract for hosting.
• Uploaded files associated with your account are stored with access controls so only your signed-in session (or API key) can fetch them, unless you explicitly share them.
• We always use HTTPS, access-controlled servers, and session authentication.

How we use your data

• To provide the product: sign-in, storage, resume generation, application tracking, tips, docs, API, and MCP access.
• To maintain and improve reliability, security, and product quality.
• To communicate about your account or material changes to these terms when needed.
• For job and recruiter matching described below — showing opportunities to you, not selling your identity to employers.

What we do not do with private resume data

• We do not sell your private verbose resume or application tracker contents as a lead list.
• We do not hand employers a dossier of your private notes, interview logs, or contacts you tracked.
• We do not use private account content to train third-party foundation models for the public internet.

Job & recruiter matching

Verbose Resume may store your verbose resume and job applications so you can tailor materials and track progress. We may later use the skills, experience, location preferences, and role signals in content you save to:

• Recommend roles and recruiters to you — surface openings or recruiting contacts that appear to align with your verbose resume, so you can decide whether to reach out or apply.
• Help employers describe opportunities on the platform — for example, allowing companies or recruiters to post roles, and matching those posts to members’ profiles at a coarse level (skills, seniority, domain) without exposing member contact details.

In that model, your resume content may be used as an internal matching signal and as context for recommendations shown in your account. Aggregate or anonymized insights (such as “how many members have Kubernetes experience”) may be used to plan which roles to feature. Identifiable contact channels stay with you unless you act on a recommendation.

Sharing & third parties

• Sign-in provider — authentication is provided by a third-party OAuth service; their policies apply to that sign-in flow.
• Hosting / infrastructure providers — processors that run our database, servers, and related infrastructure, under agreements that limit use to providing those services.
• Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the service, users, or the public from fraud or abuse.
• Content you publish — public profiles and share links are visible according to the settings you choose.

Retention & deletion

We keep account data while your account is active and as needed to operate the service. You may delete or overwrite saved resumes and applications in the product. To permanently delete your account, use Request account deletion on your profile. We email you confirming the request, and unless you cancel from that same page, we permanently delete your account and associated data about 24 hours later. Limited records may be retained where required for security, abuse prevention, or legal compliance. Questions: legal@verboseresume.com.

Cookies

We use an essential session cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising trackers on the product for third-party ad networks.

Children

The service is aimed at working adults seeking employment. It is not directed at children under 16.

Changes to this policy

We may update this page as the product evolves (especially job matching). Material changes will include a new effective date on this page. Continued use after that date means you accept the updated policy.

Terms of Service

By accessing or using Verbose Resume (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

The Service

Verbose Resume provides tools to store a detailed career record, generate tailored resumes, track job applications, and related features we make available at https://verboseresume.com. Features may change, expand, or be discontinued over time — including optional job or recruiter recommendations as described in the Privacy Policy.

Accounts

• You must be able to form a binding agreement and are responsible for activity under your account.
• Sign-in uses OAuth. Keep your sign-in account secure.
• API keys grant access as broad as your account; treat them like passwords and revoke them if leaked.

Your content

• You retain ownership of the career content you upload or write.
• You grant us a limited license to host, process, display, and use that content solely to operate and improve the Service — including matching and recommending roles or recruiters to you as described in the Privacy Policy — and not to sell your contact details to third parties.
• You are responsible for the truthfulness and legality of content you submit. Do not upload content you do not have rights to use, or that is unlawful, harmful, or abusive.
• Resumes you generate for employers are your responsibility; the Service does not guarantee interviews, offers, or hiring outcomes.

Acceptable use

• Do not abuse the Service: no scraping that harms availability, no attempts to access other users’ private data, no malware, and no use that violates law.
• Do not use automated access except through documented APIs / MCP with your own credentials and within reasonable rate limits.
• If we offer employer or recruiter posting features, those users must not use the Service to harvest member contact data that we have not made available to them.

Disclaimer

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Verbose Resume and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or career opportunity, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars (US $100). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those places, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Service operators from claims arising out of your content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms, except to the extent caused by our willful misconduct.

Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms, create risk for the Service or other users, or if we discontinue the Service. Provisions that by their nature should survive (including ownership, disclaimer, liability limits, and indemnity) will survive termination.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, unless mandatory consumer protections in your jurisdiction require otherwise. Courts in North Carolina will have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes, subject to those same mandatory protections.

Changes

We may update these Terms by posting a revised version on this page with a new effective date. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
